How to Earn Extra Money Posting on Instagram

Why I Started Blogging

In 2017, I started blogging on Instagram to share my nontraditional  journey into medical school. I started my Instagram  business profile with about 300 followers. Most of the followers were my friends and family. Once I got on good footing, I did more research on how to increase my following organically without having to pay people or advertisements. During my winter break, I created a strategy  determined to get an extra 1000 followers in a few days and it worked !

Here’s how I did it.

Creative writing has always been a passion of mine and I decided to embark on this outlet. Two years later, I could’ve never imagined the impact and success of this platform. My mission was to share my journey but most importantly encourage and motivate other young professionals to achieve the career of their dreams.

Blogging for me is something I cherish because it is a break in the monotony of my daily studying and stressful life as a medical student. It has allowed me to freely curate with no boundaries and I can tackle different topics that I wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to do so in school.

Why I Need I Side Hustle

As you may or may not know, medical school is going to leave each student with an average of a $250,000 in student loan debt. So, it is pretty wise for medical students to start thinking about ways to make extra money on the side as long as it doesn’t interfere with study habits. Even if you’re not making extra money, you can learn to not spend money on things you use everyday.  How genius would it be to save money on everyday items simply by posting about it online?  Even better, how great it would be to get paid to post about things that I actually use.

When I created my Instagram blog, I realized that there were other medical students on Instagram who were sharing their journey as well. I saw that there were medical influencers with 5000, 10,000 or even 50,000 followers! This was actually quite amazing to me because it meant that there was a big audience interested in seeing the lifestyle of  medical professionals.

Benefits of Influencing

Many of those influencers were promoting products such as scrubs, stethoscopes, facial cleansers and so much more. That’s when I discovered that becoming an influencer was much more than just putting pictures on your Instagram. Becoming an influencer is a means of extra income. It is a means of inspiring thousands of people and in my case helping them get into medical school and beyond. This journey has been an eye opening experience and I would do it  ten times over. If you have the opportunity to share your life with the world as an influencer, I highly suggest you consider it. Inspiring people and earning extra money sounds like a win-win situation if you ask me.
